Explore the surroundings
With its year-round sunshine, and stunning scenery, above and below the water, the Red Sea Riviera has long been a holiday favourite for sunbathing and a world class diving destination. The former fishing of Hurghada has transformed itself into a spectacular retreat complete with 20 kilometres of golden sand and luxurious beachside hotels.
Hurghada holiday highlights
Hurghada offers all the attractions of a beach holiday destination: water sports, windsurfing, beach bars and restaurants, and truly world-class diving.
Diving is a hugely popular activity – some of Hurghada's most beautiful sights: aquatic gardens, coral reefs, and multi-coloured fish are found underwater just off the coast. If diving isn't for you, then glass-bottomed boats are a great way to see this beautiful world, or visit the maritime museum with its turtles and coral reef displays.
In the city of Hurghada, you'll find bazaars and jewellery sellers in the old town of El Dahar, along with street stalls where you can sample local seafood and fruit delicacies. Outside of the city, desert safaris and trips to see Bedouin villages are popular, to experience how the desert tribes-people live.
Other nearby attractions include the ancient monasteries of St Paul and St Anthony, Roman ruins in the desert sands, and the short climb up Anfish Mountain, an amazing place from which to view the stunning sunset panorama over the sea.
Shopping in Hurghada is an evening activity. Bazaars get busy once the tourists are out and about so come willing to be entertained, join in and start bargaining for the right price!
